Welcome to my first blog posting!
Ever since I was a little girl I have loved to read. My mom says I was content for hours if she gave me a photo album to flip through. It started with pictures and progressed to books. When I was a little older I would bring out all my toys into our living room and build a fort. I would then bring all of my books inside my fort and read privately for hours! When I was in grade one, I remember proudly telling the librarian at our school I was allowed to borrow books from the 'Grade 3' section. I believe I was exclusively reading 'The Babysitter's Club' series at the time... I'm glad my taste in books has broadened since then!
These days I am always willing to give or receive suggestions for the latest must reads and have several books on the go. My current line-up (piled high on my night stand) includes: The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern, Midnight's Children by Salam Rushdie and The Wise Man's Fear by Patrick Rothfuss. Reviews to follow.
I am also a member of a local book club. Our group meets monthly and each member takes a turn to host and pick a book. We eat, drink wine, and always try our best to discuss the book of choice for at least half an hour... but somehow the conversation always turns into a discussion about the most recent episode of 'Sons of Anarchy'.
I thought I would start with a few suggestions. These five books are not rated in any order, they are just five books of different genres which I really enjoyed.
THE POISONWOOD BIBLE - The ladies from my book club may disagree with me on this one ;), but I found it hard to put down. Africa, sisters, tragedy, reconciliation... what's not to love?
ATONEMENT - I wasn't sure about this one before I started it, but the incredible description had me captivated. I look forwards to reading more books by author Ian McEwan.
A SONG OF ICE AND FIRE - I know this is a series, but you have to read them all to appreciate it. I started the series about eight years ago, and was immediately drawn into the Seven Kingdoms and its many characters. I am still anxiously waiting for the sixth book to be published, so don't start this one if you don't like an unfinished story! Fantasy books, who knew...
